That pile of leaves across the street
They hibernated under snow all winter
Now they have been raked across the yard
Spring Clean-Up
Waiting on the side of the road
The longer grasses and sticks poke out of the pile
Are they trying to get out Or back into the warmth of the pile
Like climbing back under the covers
On a January morning
Stray leaves peel off in the wind
And tumble down the street
Like the kindergartener who can't stay in line
The leaves and the kid looking for a different adventure
They are the ones who will not feel cornered
